National Ballet School

CDTA B.C. Branch,

Associate Member:

Ballet & Stage (Jazz)

Susan has an extensive dance background spanning over 35 years, and teaching for over  22 years.  Her early training included ballet (Cecchetti and R.A.D.), pointe, modern, jazz and national dance.

"I feel privileged to have trained or worked with some of the finest teachers in Canada.  As a young student at Alberta Ballet School, I had the opportunity to train with Miss Ruth Carse (founder of the Alberta Ballet Company).  Later, as a student teacher at the National Ballet School,  I again had the great pleasure of studying with talented and inspiring teachers."

Her career has taken her across Canada where she enjoyed many opportunities.

"Where ever there were opportunities I went!  I taught in community centres throughout Toronto, as well as at Sean Boutilier Academy of Dance.  From Toronto, on to New Brunswick, to become the Ballet Mistress of  DancEast Young Company and the Principal of the affiliated School.  Eventually I moved back to the interior of B.C. to establish my own dance studio in Salmon Arm. In 1996 I joined the teaching faculty of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet.  During that time, I was also the Cecchetti Representative for Manitoba and Saskatchewan.  From 1998 - 2006, I was the senior ballet teacher for the Penticton School of Dance.  I also established dance classes at the Cawston Community Hall 2005-2006."

Susan's reputation as a thorough and innovative teacher has been long standing, and she is in demand as an adjudicator for dance festivals throughout B.C. and Alberta.  She has entered literally hundreds of successful exam candidates into ballet examinations and many of her students have continued to train with: The National Ballet School; The Royal Winnipeg; School of the Alberta Ballet; Arts Umbrella; Toronto Dance Theatre; Joffrey Ballet; and Carnival Cruise lines.

Susan has achieved her Fellowship standing with the Cecchetti Society (there are currently only 24 other teachers in Canada awarded this qualification).

July 2010, Susan was awarded Associate Membership with the Canadian Dance Teachers Association in the Ballet and Jazz divisions!

"I am grateful for the strong support shown for my studio in the beautiful community of Armstrong, and I am looking forward to continuing building a studio of excellence this community and surrounding areas can be proud of!"
